Arizona Truck Accident Laws

Each state has unique regulations regarding commercial vehicles. Arizona’s truck laws are designed in an attempt to maximize the operating ability of commercial institutions without compromising the safety of passenger vehicles. When a commercial trucking company breaks these regulations and a truck accident occurs, victims may be entitled to massive amounts of compensation for their injuries and property damage.

Commercial Driver License

All truck drivers who drive a truck that has a vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds to transport property are required to have a commercial driver license in order to operate their truck on Arizona roadways. The type of Commercial Driver License, or CDL, is determined by the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).

In order to obtain a Commercial Driver License, a driver must have passed a road skills test, successfully meet medical standards, and passed written examinations.

Highway Safety

For the purpose of highway safety, a person is not allowed to drive or move a vehicle on a highway unless the vehicle is constructed or loaded in a way to prevent any of its load from dropping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping from the vehicle. However, the following are permitted:

  • Sufficient sand may be dropped for a purpose of securing traction.
  • Water or another substance may be sprinkled on a roadway in maintaining or cleaning a roadway.
  • Minor pieces of agricultural materials such as stems and leaves from agricultural loads.

More Highway Safety

A person is not allowed to operate a vehicle on a highway with a load unless the load and any covering on the load are securely fastened in a manner to prevent the covering or load from becoming loose, detached or in any manner a hazard to other users of the highway.
